Winter is coming and you know what that means. It’s time to prepare your powersports vehicle for storage. Whether you’re the proud owner of an ATV, UTV, or both, you’ll need to take a few key steps to ensure your vehicle is ready to be stored for the off-season. Here at Antlers Motorsports, we’ve put together a brief guide to get you started.

Fuel Tank/Carburetor
The fuel tank and carburetor are some of the most important components you’ll need to tend to when preparing your vehicle for storage (if applicable). Turn off the fuel and allow the engine to run until there’s no gas left. This ensures your tank will not be full of stale fuel when you pull it out of storage. It also prevents varnish issues that could force you to require service.
Battery
Don’t forget to remove your battery and put it on a trickle charger before you store your vehicle. When you leave it sitting for several months, you’re basically guaranteeing that you’ll return to a dead battery. By placing it on a trickle charger, you prolong the battery life and ensure that you’ll be ready to ride when the warm weather returns. What more could you ask for?
Air Filter
You should always remember to service your air filter or switch it out for a new one prior to storage. You can also block the inlet ports to the airbox, which prevents any critters from getting in. Leave an indicator reminding you to unblock them when you take your ATV or UTV out of storage. This makes your life easier and also prolongs the health of your machine.
Tires
If you have the ability to do so, it’s an excellent idea to elevate your machine while it’s in storage. This removes the weight of the vehicle from the tires, which prevent flats and prolongs tire life in general. If your ATV or UTV will sit for a long period of time, elevate it if possible.
Clean & Cover
You’re almost there. Now, all you have left to do is give your vehicle a good cleaning and spray it with polish. This will protect your seat, plastics, and other surfaces from oxidation. When you store your vehicle outdoors, this step is especially important. Wherever you store your ride, be sure to use a breathable cover with plenty of ventilation so moisture doesn't get trapped inside.
